Band Logo Design Ideas
The music industry, while founded on art, is in its roots a business. As any person who dabbled on entrepreneurship know, in business branding is as important as capital. For instance, United Kingdom-based o2 - a recognized leader in the telecommunications industry - has a department solely dedicated to its brand name and image maintenance. Image is very important in any endeavor that requires patronage from a third party. That's why entertainers - singers, actors, and even stand-up comedians - work doubly hard on their packaging.
This is the main reason why today's performers go through various personality development and total make-over sessions. In mainstream media, branding is as important as the performers' actual talent. Before aspiring bands begin thinking of their own image though, it's also essential to pay attention to the "face" of a band's branding - logo creation. The band's logo is your group's coat of arms, the main symbol you'd want your lot to be associated with. Here are a few tips on coming up with a logo design for your band.
In creating a logo for a band, a quick review of what other bands have done for their logos can be helpful.
We noticed that bands generally do one of three things:
- Create a logo using only the name
- Use a picture to represent their band
- Combine the two approaches in one graphic.
Which approach a band takes with their logo probably depends a great deal on what they hope to do with the logo, in other words, how they expect to use it.
Some Examples
Words Only
As you can see from these, the name itself become the image to be remembered.
It probably goes without saying that the style of the text and the colors are used to communicate what adjectives the band wants its image to be associate with, be it "Classic" or "hard core" or "hip".

These examples, of course, are logos for groups that are based solely on a picture.
Tough not to notice these isn't it? That, in fact, is the whole point.

This approach seems to be the most common - combining both an image-saturated name with a graphic that speaks to the same theme.
