Vicar Says ‘No’ to Bingo-Logo Wedding
It’s no secret that bingo, land based and online, is wildly popular in the UK. Matt Brown, 37, and Suzanne Latta, 28 were the lucky winners of the contest sponsored by the Online Bingo Club.
This is not the first time a wedding has been used for marketing purposes. A few years ago the wedding of Anthea Turner and Grant Bovey ‘promoted’ Cadbury’s Snowflake chocolate bar. The happy couple’s nuptials ran into a snag after Vicar Rev Watts said that no logos would be permitted in his church. He also expressed his disapproval of gambling. Suzanne stated, “We were both absolutely delighted to have been chosen as the winners of the Bingo Bride competition. But our minister is not allowing any photos in the church during the ceremony, it is a sacred place and he wants no distractions, on speaking to him he didn’t approve of gambling being advertised in his church.” There was no comment from Rev. Watts.
A representative from OnlineBingoClub, Rob Hutchison, said, “We are very disappointed that the vicar won’t allow our logos inside his church [editor: isn't a cross a church logo? So, the church has a logo in it, right?]. We wanted to sponsor a wedding because we thought it would be great fun and a popular way to get our name out there. At the end of the day it is all just a bit of harmless fun and five grand would have helped Matt and Suzanne pay for their special day.” Some in the online bingo industry have criticized the contest but the OnlineBingoClub said that their competitors are just jealous they didn’t think of the promotion first.
