College logos are commonly of two types - the college name
logo and the mascot logo. Even with a mascot logo, many colleges use only the
name on uniforms and helmets. Here is a typical name logo, big and brawny, with
the college name emblazoned across the center of the logo. As is also common on
college logos, the school letter is outlined in a different color, giving it an
added emphasis, especially since the full college name has the same outline
color. You can't go wrong by following the basic formula here for your college
logo. |

Here is a college mascot and name logo combined in one, actually
rather unusual. But the logo effect is quite attractive, partly because of the
color scheme used. The tiger yellow carries off the edge of the logo, then is
reproduced on the raised college name portion of the logo. Also notice that the
LSU portion of the logo has dual outlines, white outlined in black. Altogether a
very effective logo, with much to be learned if you are designing one for your
college. |

While many college logos
have tigers or wildcats, here's one mascot that is unlikely to appear elsewhere,
since it is a mythical creature. Appearing to be a friendly creature as opposed
to the college mascot logos intended to strike fear into opponents, this one
might peck you to death, but that's all. Carrying the school colors plus the
yellow that is appropriate for birds, plus a strange looking claw at the back of
only one shoe, this logo is definitely different. You might take some lessons
from this bird if your college needs a mascot logo. Similarity to real creatures
is good, then let your imagination take it from there, and your logo may be a
hit at your college. |

This is a college logo that appears as a seal. In
most cases, a seal is a statement of the origin and purpose of an organization
or entity, and this logo carries that message. The college founder's name even
appears, along with elements which would need explanation but undoubtedly
display in logo form the founding principles of the college. It would be unusual
to create this kind of logo unless a college was being newly founded, but since
that does happen, this one can be an example of what can be done. |
